Desirable Objects: 2010 Chicago Auto Show

The Chicago Auto Show can be an ideal place to find a car to match your mission in life, but lest your eyes start to water from the sea of glittering chrome and your feet ache from too many laps around the 1.2 million square feet floor, consult this guide of four new cars to consider.

ChevyVolt
You Want to Save the Planet

The highly-anticipated Chevrolet Volt speaks to the über-green who laud its near-zero emissions and, depending on how far you drive, independence from the traditional fuel supply. Unlike a hybrid, the Volt runs solely on an electric battery for 40 miles, then sips on its fuel reserves for up to an additional 300 miles. Charging can be done on a standard household outlet. The Volt will be available in late 2010.

FiskerKarma
You Want to Save the Planet, But Quickly and In Style

Love to burn rubber but feel a wee bit guilty about doing so? Then the Fisker Karma is for you. It’s a study in contrasts: a 403 horsepower hybrid four-door sedan with supercar styling. Luxury trim including bamboo viscose. Will it be all things to all people? The automotive community has been waiting delivery for several years, but Fisker now promises to be available by late 2010 at local auto groups Fields and Patrick.

MercedesSLSAMG
You’re More Interested in the “Quickly” Part

Debuting in summer 2010, the 2011 Mercedes SLS AMG has a top speed of 196 mph. It features Mercedes styling that’s not only gracious but also produces some serious handling dynamics.

PorschePanamera
Quick is Nice, but Let’s Not Forget Comfort

Yes, that’s a 4-door Porsche. The Panamera boasts a 400-hp engine and 44.6 cu. ft. of cargo space. While Porsche doesn’t have an individual manufacturer display at the auto show, you can see them at the Loeber Motors display. The Panamera is currently available for sale.

The Chicago Auto Show runs from February 12-21 at McCormick Place.  Tickets available online.
