Art: The Art Institute Goes Cube Crazy

Yesterday, I was strolling through one of Simply Magnificent’s lovely and amazing Twitter Lists (compiled for your convenience to provide you with the ultimate Twitter guides to Chicago living) and stumbled across a slew of excited art fans twittering about finding these strange little red cubes on their travels throughout Chicago.

Apparently, it’s all a part of The Art Institute of Chicago‘s latest city-wide art feat- The Red Cube Project, a part of AI’s 500 Ways of Looking at Modern, a year-long “exploration and celebration of all things modern.”

Here’s how it works. The Art Institute has scattered 500 small (4 of them quite large) red cubes throughout Chicago and each has its own art project attached. Find it, complete the assignment and a few lucky artists will find their work showcased in a special exhibit at the Art Institute in Spring 2010.

Visit the 500 Ways website to view the found cubes and their different assignments. And keep your eyes peeled!
